Rubio’s Middle East visit follows President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal for Palestinian resettlement in other Arab countries and US-led reconstruction of Gaza.
State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce highlighted the importance of a stable Gaza arrangement for regional peace. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the recent ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and discussed broader regional issues, including Syria, Lebanon, and the Red Sea. Saudi state news agency SPA reported that the meeting also covered global developments and efforts to enhance security.
Rubio's trip began in Israel and precedes upcoming US-Russia talks led by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, focusing on the Ukraine conflict. No statements mentioned Ukraine during the Saudi meeting. Rubio's diplomatic engagement aims to strengthen US influence in the region while addressing key geopolitical challenges.
