An “Ultraman” anime trailer was recently released and it is set to stream on Netflix. However, many are already making comments about how the new incarnation of the Japanese icon is a generic copy of “Iron Man.” What’s more, although only the trailer has been released, there are already predictions that the anime is going to be a monumental failure.
The “Ultraman” anime that is coming to Netflix was announced earlier this year but the news did not get a lot of traction. It wasn’t until the trailer was dropped that fans of the Japanese property even learned that it was coming. In fact, many declared the trailer as fake despite the fact that the clip was posted on the official YouTube account of Netflix.
In terms of the plot, it would seem that this new “Ultraman” anime is about passing on the torch to the new generation, with the protagonist’s father giving him his power. This is being done while fighting against what seems like an evil version of Ultraman. This is not the first time that alternate versions of the gigantic monster fighter are featured.
After seeing how the hero is showcased in the upcoming “Ultraman” anime, however, many fans expressed their disappointment. Some have expressed that the presentation of the new Ultraman is too much like the Iron Man suit from Marvel’s “Iron Man” franchise. This likely isn’t a coincidence with the animators banking on the comic book superhero’s popularity.
On the other hand, this could lead to the “Ultraman” anime actually flopping. After all, the icon has built its own image and reputation from its live-action days. Turning it into something unfamiliar just to make Ultraman look modern is not exactly something that fans are looking forward to. The final results will be obvious when the anime airs on April 1, 2019.
