It has been a month since Steam Deck became officially available to PC gamers first in line to order Valve’s handheld gaming rig. The company has listed some of the added features released over the last month and provided a few updates on what gaming fans can expect in the near future.
Valve recently published a first-month celebration blog post for Steam Deck, where the company took note of quite a long list of improvements deployed in previous weeks. But Valve also assured Steam Deck users that it is continuously working on fully supporting the Windows operating system on the PC gaming device.
While the Windows audio driver is still missing, Valve said it is aiming to “share good news about that soon.” That seems like an assurance that the audio drivers could become available shortly, but it is still unknown exactly when that will happen.
Last month, Valve released several Windows drivers that allowed Steam Deck users to install Windows. The list of available drivers can be found on this support page, which includes installations for GPU, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and SD card drivers. Those who want to run Steam Deck on Windows 10 can perform a clean install of the OS. But the lack of audio drivers means they cannot get audio through the device’s speakers and 3.5mm jack, so users will have to rely on peripherals connected via USB-C and Bluetooth.
Valve also confirmed that the fTPM support is still in beta. The company said Steam Deck users will be able to install Windows 11 once that is available.
The company also noted that there are now 2,000 PC games certified as “Verified” and “Playable” on Steam Deck. Valve expects the list of compatible games to grow and encourages users to take advantage of the Feedback feature to let the company know if the Verified status is accurate for the games they play.
Last week, Valve announced that it is ramping up the shipments of Steam Deck. That means more PC gamers will receive emails about order availability in the coming weeks. People have to secure a reservation as the first step to ordering Steam Deck.
