‘Vikings’ season 4’s episode 11 is scheduled to return to History on July. The new episode may find king Lothar struggling to keep Kattegat in his power. Meanwhile, it was speculated that Ivar the Boneless will emerge as Kattegat’s new ruler.
The upcoming premiere of season 4’s second half of the series will follow Viking ruler Ragnar Lothbrok’s (Travis Fimmel) threatened dominion over Kattegat. According to GameNGuide, the season may introduce more challenges for Ragnar as he struggles to keep his kingship following his defeat in Paris.
In the preceding episodes, Ragnar is seen defeated in the battle in Paris. Some of his people began to lose trust in him. He also challenged his eldest son Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) in combat to prove his worthiness in taking over the throne.
It was reported that the new half of season 4 will follow Ragnar as he journeys back home only to find the most unwelcome return. He will also find his sons with second wife Aslaug as fully-grown men. These sons may want to challenge their father as possible heirs to the throne.
According to another article on Movie News Guide, it was also speculated that Ragnar’s first wife may also steak her claim on Kattegat. Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), Bjorn’s mother, proved herself to be a highly skilled warrior and leader and it remains a possibility that she will rise against Ragnar to take Kattegat for herself.
The most interesting rumor, however, is that Ragnar’s youngest son Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) will emerge as the new ruler of Kattegat. Episode 11’s promo opened with Ragnar saying, “One day the world will know and fear Ivar the Boneless.” It was suggested that Ragnar may have already chosen a son to succeed him as king.
Ivar the Boneless is known to be one of the greatest Vikings in history. According to traditional Norse sagas, Ivar was one of the leaders of the Great Heathen Army during the invasion of the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of East Anglia in 865.
He ruled over an area that now covers parts of modern Denmark and Sweden. He was depicted as a cruel and ferocious Viking warlord and was known to fight his battles in an uncontrollable rage.
It is not known how much of history will be portrayed on the small screen in the upcoming second half of season 4. Ivar’s importance in the series is also yet to be determined.
‘Vikings’ season 4’s episode 11 is scheduled to premiere on the television channel History on July 7, 2016. The Irish-Canadian historical drama last aired the first half of season 4 from February 18 to April 21.
