‘Vikings’ season 4’s episode 15, titled “All His Angels,” is set to feature Ragnar and his son Ivar the Boneless teaming up to devise a strategy to bring down the Saxons. Meanwhile, King Aelle will show Ragnar no mercy as his enemy arrives in a cage.
The brief synopsis for “All His Angels” posted on Spoiler TV reads, “Ragnar (Travis Fimmel) and Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) plot against the Saxons and reach a new level of understanding.” Ragnar and Ivar will finally join together not only as father and son but as allies as they strategize a plan to bring down the Saxons.
It seems that Ragnar will finally be delivered to the spiteful and vindictive monarch of Northumbria, King Aelle (Ivan Kaye), based on the events of the preceding episode titled, "In the Uncertain Hour Before the Morning," where Ragnar made a deal with King Ecbert (Linus Roache).
The promo for episode 15 showed Ragnar held captive in the English king’s court and was seen being brutalized badly. It was speculated that Ragnar may finally meet his death in the incoming episode. Ragnar’s death seems plausible as this would usher in the rise of Ivar as the newest ruthless leader.
During an interview with Cartermatt, Andersen talked about the challenges in playing a crippled warrior saying, “The way I approached this whole thing was trying to figure out how I was going to compensate for the fact that I wasn’t able to choreograph my own scenes, since I wasn’t able to walk. That was a huge challenge acting-wise.”
He added, “The biggest challenge is to not over-compensate with your acting, since you’re really only able to act from your waist up. So, you tell yourself ‘I need to act more,’ but you really need to act less. You’re still in front of a camera, so you can’t do big arm movements and you can’t act too much with your face. What I’ve been trying to do with him is that less is more, and I’ve been trying to keep it to the eyes. I think that’s what’s interesting, also with the disease since it colors the whites of his eyes.”
When asked about Ivar’s thoughts when Ragnar surrendered to King Ecbert, Andersen replied, “I think that Ivar doesn’t quite understand where his dad is going [with this], but I also think that he trusts him 100%. I think he’s definitely questioning him, but he’s doing it in his own head.”
He continued, “I think Ivar understands that Ragnar has a deeper purpose than what Ivar would understand, and he accepts that. Ivar has a lovely line where he says ‘one day being with my father is worth a lifetime of pity,’ and that is really what this is all about — just him spending time with his dad.”
‘Vikings’ season 4’s episode 15, titled “All His Angels,” is scheduled to air on History on December 28, 2016. It will be followed by episode 16, titled "Crossings," scheduled for January 4, 2017.
