As production for “Vikings” Season 5 is underway, fans are clamoring for every bit of spoiler in anticipation for the show’s return. One of these spoilers is the return of Rollo (Clive Standen), whom we saw returning to Normandy and is placed far away from the chaos of Season 4.
Standen himself has confirmed the news to TVLine, and even teased that his character will be very different this time around. He said, “Nearly every season, [creator] Michael Hirst has allowed me to reinvent this man, and Season 5 is no different. I think when he comes back, all bets are off… You’ll see a very different Rollo. [The season]’s going to be explosive, but not in the ways that you’d expect.”
Screenrant said Standen’s continuing presence in the show was up in the air ever since he’d taken the lead role in NBC’s “Taken.” Moreover, Rollo’s return would definitely provide a nice story arc, as it is expected that his return would generate some sort of resistance from the Vikings, including his former friends and family members.
On the other hand, Ragnar’s (Travis Fimmel) end in Season 4 isn’t necessarily the end, as teased by Hirst. Den of Geek said although Fimmel thinks his character has outlived the original storyline for the historical drama series, Hirst believes that “Ragnar lives on.”
"Because he's such a powerful presence in people's lives he could reappear in dreams, in visions … I don't think that any of my major characters … I started with — Floki (Gustaf Skarsgard), Ragnar and Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick) and Rollo … none of them will ever actually go away or disappear from the saga," Hirst teased.
