Fans of the History Channel historical drama “Vikings” may be excited by the fact that their favorite show got renewed for a sixth season before the fifth season even started. They, however, have a long wait ahead.
While information on “Vikings” season 6's new cast members is already out, along with the exciting prospect of Katheryn Winnick, who plays Lagertha, directing one of the episodes for the season, the show has yet to have a confirmed air date.
For those who have yet to watch the “Vikings” season 5 mid-season finale, the 10th episode of the season gave us the massive battle that left Bjorn Ironside and his mother, Lagertha, beaten back by the armies of Ivar the Boneless, who are supported by foreign Frankish troops. Lagertha has been left broken and white-haired after the stressful ordeal. To add to the mid-season finale, Rollo returned just as Bjorn and his mother were on the brink of total defeat.
“Vikings” season 6 has already cast Russian actor and director Danila Kozlovsky to play Oleg of Novgorod, the 10th Century ruler of the Rus people. While season 5 seemed to focus on the lives of Ragnar Lothbrok's kin after his death in season 4, it looks like season 6 will be shifting its focus to the empires outside the borders of the late Lothbrok's kingdom.
Once fans have been given a proper successor amongst the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok in the upcoming fifth season, the direction of the sixth season will be easier to predict, especially regarding what role the Eastern European Vikings of the Rus people will play.
Fans waiting for “Vikings” season 6 can enjoy the second half of season 5 when it airs its first episode on Nov. 28. If production for the sixth season goes well, fans can expect the usual November broadcast of the “Vikings” season 6 premiere episode in 2019.
