If you’re a fan of the longtime TV game show “Wheel of Fortune,” you’re probably one of the many viewers who has been outraged over a contestant who failed to solve an otherwise obvious puzzle.
On Tuesday night, a contestant named Kevin was one letter away to solving a puzzle on the famous board, Entertainment Weekly said. The board read “A STREETCAR NA_ED DESIRE,” and anyone would have guessed right off the bat that the answer was the 1947 play written by American playwright Tennessee Williams, which was later adapted into an Academy Award-winning drama film starred by the late Marlon Brando and Vivien Leigh.
Viewers of the syndicated show did not expect Kevin to choose “K” instead of “M” as his next letter.
Fans of the show expressed their feelings about the contestant, which ranged from exasperation to utter outrage. One wrote, “If Alex Trebek hosted Wheel of Fortune, he would have clowned this contestant until the credits rolled.”
Another tweeted, ““Dude on Wheel of Fortune had to solve this: A STREETCAR NA_ED DESIRE. He asked for a K. I’m gonna go lie down.”
Although the next contestant, a woman named Lisa, quickly guessed the correct answer, host Pat Sajak joked about Kevin’s answer. He slyly said, “And although you got the right answer, I’d rather see Kevin’s play.”
Sajak has yet to respond to the tv show mishap, Variety said. His latest tweet was on Sunday, which could mean that the host will not make any allusions over the hilarious episode. He wrote, “On an extended break from reading or watching anything political. Skies are bluer. Birds are singing. Living my life!”
