Vitafusion, a popular vitamin brand, issued a recall on some of its gummy vitamins for children and adults as they could contain metallic mesh. To prevent unfortunate incidents, Church & Dwight Company Inc. that owns the brand, voluntarily recalled the affected batches.
The New Jersey-based Vitafusion vitamin manufacturer announced the recall of some nutritional supplements this week. The decision came after the discovery of metal, and there could be product lots that may have this foreign material in the gummies.
The recall announcement
As per USA Today, the supplement products that were recalled are those that were manufactured from Oct. 29 to Nov. 3 of last year. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration stated that in a severe case, ingesting a metallic material can damage the digestive tract.
The agency added that Church & Dwight Company Inc. is not aware of any incidence of injury or illness due to the ingestion of its Vitafusion vitamin products. The FDA also revealed that the vitamin manufacturer voluntarily initiated a recall of its gummy vitamins after Church & Dwight’s probe of two consumer reports that say metallic mesh could be present in some lots of supplements.
“Church & Dwight is coordinating closely with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and following all relevant protocols,” the FDA said in its notice of recall. “These products were distributed to in-store and e-commerce retailers from November 13, 2020 through April 9, 2021.”
The list of recalled gummy supplements
The FDA listed the products affected, and it also included the Universal Product Code (UPC) and Lot Code of each one to make sure the consumers will easily identify which bottles should not be consumed anymore. However, the list of retailers that distributed the recalled batch is not available, but Publix grocery was mentioned in some reports, and it already posted a recall notice on its own website as well.
The recalled products include some batches of the Vitafusion Kids Melatonin, Vitafusion Fiber Well, Vitafusion SleepWell, Vitafusion MultiVites, Vitafusion Melatonin, and Vitafusion Fiber Wel. Most of them have an expiration date of November 2022, but there are also September and April 2022 dates.
