Reviews of the new “Warhammer 4000” game “Warhammer 40000: Gladius - Relics of War” are out. While many reviewers were relatively pleased with what they saw, almost all noted one major difference in this game compared to others of this type. Basically, the option of choosing diplomacy has been taken off the table. Players of the game are given only blunt instruments to work with.
Now, it’s worth getting to know this game a little more for some context as to why there is no option for diplomacy. In its review, Wccftech.com noted that this latest “Warhammer 4000” game is set on a planet called Gladius Prime. Apparently, this world contains deep secrets that slept until the human colonizers woke it up. From there, chaos ensued.
As “Warhammer 4000” titles go, “Warhammer 40000: Gladius - Relics of War” is a little different in that it’s a 4X game (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit and eXterminate). It basically pits players against enemies and the environment, where they’ll need to scrounge up supplies. Using those supplies, players are able to build facilities and grow their armies.
As one can imagine, having such a setup is not exactly ideal for a system that allows for level-headed discussions. What’s more, the addition of Orks, Astra Militarum, and Necrons has made the situation quite testy. This is why Space Marines are choosing to shoot first and then never ask questions in this game, which can be atypical of a 4X title.
In its own take on the matter, Kotaku notes that the 4X “Warhammer 4000” game functions well enough for what it is. This means that fans of the series, as well as titles in this genre, won’t have too much trouble adjusting to the new setup.
On the matter of the lack of diplomacy, the publication is a little more regretful of the fact because it considers the option a standard affair in 4X games. It would have given this “Warhammer 4000” some more depth of character and more strategic options.
