To celebrate SpongeBob SquarePants’ 25th anniversary, Wendy’s launched the Krabby Patty Kollab, featuring a mysterious sauce that has sparked online speculation. A Reddit user allegedly leaked the full recipe, revealing Rochester sauce concentrate as the secret ingredient. Fans are debating its resemblance to Thousand Island dressing.
Wendy’s Krabby Patty Burger Features a Mysterious Sauce, with Alleged Recipe Leak Revealing Ingredients
Wendy's introduced the Krabby Patty Kollab on October 8 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the premiere of the iconic Nickelodeon series SpongeBob SquarePants in 1999. Mashed said this special promotion features the Krabby Patty Burger and a Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty. The burger is topped with a mysterious Krabby Kollab sauce, with Wendy's playing up the secrecy around the recipe, much like Mr. Krabs famously guards the formula for his Krabby Patty. The only ingredient on Wendy's website is egg, which is listed as an allergen, but an alleged leak may have revealed the full recipe.
A Reddit user, DongWigglin, posted a picture that allegedly shows the box in which the Krabby Kollab sauce comes with a complete list of ingredients printed on it. The components are standard for a sauce, including soybean oil, distilled vinegar, sugar, tomato paste, egg yolks, high fructose corn syrup, and mustard seed. However, the most intriguing ingredient is Rochester sauce concentrate, a thinner, chili-like sauce often compared to Worcestershire sauce and famously used in Rochester’s garbage plate.
Krabby Sauce Sparks Debate, Compared to Thousand Island and Cane’s, but With a Unique Twist
Many online commentators speculate that the Krabby sauce is a variation of Thousand Island dressing, as it shares similar ingredients to popular versions by Ken's Steakhouse and Kraft. However, the absence of pickles and the inclusion of Rochester sauce set it apart from a traditional Thousand Island recipe. Some have even likened the sauce to Raising Cane's signature condiment, though slightly sweeter. While Cane’s sauce includes Worcestershire and anchovies for its umami flavor, the Krabby sauce contains Rochester but no anchovies.
As for the taste of Wendy’s Krabby Patty Burger, opinions are mixed. Some customers have embraced the new item, while others find it underwhelming, noting that it resembles a Dave’s Single with a more flavorful sauce. Wendy’s Krabby Patty review suggests it doesn’t capture the under-the-sea magic fans might have hoped for. Nevertheless, whether or not the Krabby Patty Burger lives up to expectations, SpongeBob SquarePants continues to inspire numerous collaborations, including the popular Krabby Patty Gummy Candies.
