‘Westworld’ season 2 is set to return on HBO on 2018. Actor Luke Hemsworth explained the reason behind the long wait before the show’s incoming season premieres on the small screen during a recent interview. Meanwhile, Angela Sarafyan, who plays Clementine on the series, teased that season 2 may feature a war initiated by hosts.
Season 2 of HBO’s breakout television series based on Michael Crichton’s 1973 film of the same name is set to return on the network sometime in 2018. Although it may seem like a long wait for fans of the series, star Luke Hemsworth explained that the long waiting period would be necessary to execute the new season properly. Hemsworth plays Ashley Stubbs, the head of Westworld security in-charge of host-human interactions in the park.
According to Comicbook.com, Hemsworth said, “They are trying to get it right. They don’t want to go in doing what they were doing last time where they were under the cosh the whole time. They want to go in with a clear plan - A to Z and everything in between - at least have drafts in place.”
The 36-year old Australian actor also talked about how his role on the series was an incredible opportunity for him. He is the eldest of the Hemsworth brothers, with Chris well-known for his roles on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s ‘Thor’ series, and Liam popular for his work on ‘The Hunger Games’ trilogy.
According to the Independent, Hemsworth first auditioned for the role of Teddy, which has been given to James Marsden. Months passed and other actors began filling the other roles but he eventually got the call for Ashley. He said, “I think I only did one more audition after that, and sealed the deal… It’s a beautiful jumping off point. I’m not carrying the show so I’ve not got that pressure. It’s an incredible feeling and a great introduction to an American production.”
The science-fiction and Western thriller series was created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. The two serve as executive producers along with J.J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub, and Bryan Burk. Season 1 premiered on October 2, 2016 and concluded on December 4 of the same year and consisted of ten episodes.
The story takes place in a massive park populated by androids called “Hosts” and visited by humans called “Guests.” These Guests can do whatever they please within the park without the threat of retaliation from the Hosts. ‘Westworld’ received praise from critics and fans alike, particularly for its story, performances, and visuals.
Meanwhile, actress Angela Sarafyan admitted that she hoped to see her character Clementine Pennyfeather for season 2 as she was the one who shot Ed Harris’ The Man in Black in the finale episode.
When asked if other parks will emerge in the incoming season during an interview with Marie Claire, she replied, "Honestly I have no idea, I genuinely don't know. They haven't given us any hints, nobody knows anything, I promise. That's how the show was—we would go from episode to episode not knowing until the minute we read what was going to happen. I'm in the same place you are—what is going to happen?! We're all excited to see what's to come."
When asked if she had any personal theories on the new storyline, she said, "I feel like a war is about to begin. This is just a guess, but looking at where things ended, now it's going to the next level. The hosts are no longer under the control of these people, now it's time to fight back. What do you think?"
‘Westworld’ season 2 was renewed on HBO last November 2016 and is expected to return sometime in 2018.
