Dolores’ (Evan Rachel Wood) attempt to take over the real world is one of the most obvious premises of “Westworld” season 3. But one of the biggest questions remains to be about the fate of Teddy (James Marsden).
Avid fans of HBO’s popular sci-fi series know by now that no one really dies in “Westworld,” especially among the hosts. The programmed android may have their physical forms destroyed, a.k.a. killed, but their consciousness can live on. Such was the case for Teddy by the end of season 2.
‘Westworld’ season 3 plot, cast speculations: Can Teddy still be alive?
The penultimate episode of season 2 showed Teddy taking his own life after telling Dolores that he hated how she made him a “monster.” In the finale, however, Dolores had a change of heart about using the Sublime and transferred the hosts’ consciousness – including Teddy’s – into their version of utopia.
That means Teddy is, technically, not dead. But his return as a living host in “Westworld” season 3 is not guaranteed.
Marsden does not want to spill the beans on whether or not he will reprise his character for very obvious reasons. However, he also does not rule out the likelihood of Teddy coming back. “I mean, I’m not allowed to say anything. But I would say that just based on your hypothesis, if he’s died 4,000 times, then I would say that the odds are probably strong,” the actor told ComicBook when asked about Teddy’s fate in “Westworld” season 3.
‘Westworld’ season 3 release date: Next installment is ‘unlike’ the earlier seasons, Evan Rachel Wood hints
“Westworld” season 3 is fittingly titled “The New World,” and it can have several meanings as the story unfolds in the upcoming eight episodes of the series. With the Delos park practically destroyed in season 2, the title could be a nod to the speculated construction of new worlds, the real world as a new experience for Dolores, or the host heaven where Teddy might be.
What’s certain is there are many “new” aspects of plot compared to the earlier installments. Wood reiterated this much in an interview with IndieWire, where she said the next season is “unlike anything” the show has done before. Teddy’s whereabouts are just one of the many things to unravel once “Westworld” season 3 premieres on March 15 on HBO.
