When season 9 of “The Walking Dead” came out, it signaled the exit of Lauren Cohan as Maggie. A huge reason for this is the new series that she would be starring in called “Whiskey Cavalier.” Unfortunately, the show got canceled, and this throws the prospect of a “Whiskey Cavalier” Season 2 right into the garbage can. On the other hand, this practically guarantees that Maggie is coming back.
Fans were holding out hope for ABC to cancel the cancellation, but that hope was dashed when the network announced that its decision was final, Deadline recently reported. Series creator David Hemingson himself posted the bad news on social media, writing that “Whiskey Cavalier” Season 2 is not happening.
“I just got the sad news that @ABCNetwork has passed. #WhiskeyCavalier has been fully and finally cancelled,” the post reads. “It’s incredibly painful to say goodbye to this show and our extraordinary cast, but knowing that we made something you enjoyed – and that I believe will stand the test of time – makes it all worthwhile.”
This development came after ABC was encouraged to reevaluate the potential of “Whiskey Cavalier” Season 2 if it is worth doing. As it turns out, this is just not the case. A huge part of this is due to the poor ratings, although this actually saw a huge jump during the finale. Had there been more viewers of the show, it could have certainly gotten a second season.
On that note, the cancellation of “Whiskey Cavalier” Season 2 now means that there are fewer obstacles preventing Lauren Cohan from returning to “The Walking Dead.” Her reappearance might just give the show some of the flair that it once had during its heyday when it was still the prime example of good TV. Instead, fans are getting the “GOT” Season 8 vibe where the writers are dropping the ball.
