‘Wonder Woman’ released its full synopsis ahead of the scheduled June 2017 release. Patty Jenkins will be directing Gal Gadot in the first ever standalone female hero film in the DCEU. However, the scriptwriting process became complicated and three men have been credited for preparing the screenplay.
Jenkins’ upcoming film in the DC Extended Universe finally released its full official synopsis. The synopsis posted on the Independent stated, “’Wonder Woman’ hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.”
Gadot will star in the first ever film in the DCEU to feature a female main protagonist after being introduced into the franchise in Zack Snyder’s recent flop ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’. Jenkins, best known for her critically-acclaimed work on the 2003 crime-drama film ‘Monster’, will also be helming the film. It seemed that the film will be getting quite a lot of female energy but surprisingly, three men have been credited at preparing its screenplay.
According to /Film, Warner Bros. released a new press release crediting Snyder, DC Films co-chief Geoff Johns and ‘Young Avengers’ writer Allan Heinberg as the film’s screenwriters. Surprisingly, not one woman was named as part of the writing process. It was revealed that Johns and Heinberg penned the script based on story by Snyder and Heinberg.
Originally, five writers were hired to write competing drafts of the upcoming film’s script. Jason Fuchs of ‘Pan’ and ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ apparently won the bid but that was when Michelle McLaren was on board to helm the film. However, it seems that Warner Bros. opted to take a different writing direction altogether after McLaren dropped out of the project due to creative differences.
‘Wonder Woman’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film intended as the DC super heroine’s standalone film in the DCEU. It stars Gal Gadot in the lead role and is joined by Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Connie Nielsen as Queen Hippolyta, Robin Wright as General Antiope, and Lucy Davis as Etta Candy. It is scheduled to be released on June 2, 2017.
The film is produced under Warner Bros., DC Entertainment, Atlas Entertainment, Cruel & Unusual Films, and Rat-Pac Dune Entertainment LLC. It is distributed by Warner Bros.
