It has not been a week yet since a long list of Bethesda titles were added to the Xbox Game Pass catalog that can be accessed by subscribers without additional cost. However, Microsoft has now announced that 5 of those games are already supported by the FPS Boost feature.
New Xbox Game Pass titles from Bethesda gets FPS Boost
Last week, Microsoft and Bethesda announced that 20 titles developed by Bethesda were made available to Xbox Game Pass members. It happened just a few days after Microsoft completed its $7.5 billion purchase of the developer’s parent company ZeniMax Media. The benefits of that acquisition will not end there, though.
Microsoft announced Monday that five of those games had been updated to work with Xbox’s new feature called FPS Boost for Xbox Series X/S consoles. As suggested by its name, the new tech makes it possible for older titles to play at a higher framerate, “nearly doubling” is what’s promised, without the developers needing to completely rework the game.
Since Monday, “Dishonored: Definitive Edition,” “The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition,” “Fallout 4, “Fallout 76,” and “Prey” should play at higher framerates on the new-gen Xbox consoles. These titles should be now run at “nearly 60 fps” for Xbox Series X/S players.
There is one catch, though. Microsoft said the gaming resolution for “Fallout 4” and “Fallout 76” needed to be reduced due to “higher graphics requirements” of the games to achieve FPS Boost. Based on early reviews, this appears to translate to not being able to play “Fallout 4” on 4K at 60 fps. Some fans have since pointed out that there are available mods that have been letting them play the game in this setting.
How to enable FPS Boost on Xbox Series X/S
For some FPS Boost-supported games, this feature should be enabled by default. Otherwise, players can activate this by going to the “Manage Game” section and select the recently added “Compatibility Options” button where on and off toggles for FPS Boost and Auto HDR can be found. Also, note that consoles have the latest update and rebooted to find the new feature.
Xbox Series X/S players can also check if their game is running with FPS Button by pressing the Xbox button on the controller. Meanwhile, Microsoft also promised that more titles will be announced in the “coming weeks” that will get the FPS Boost enhancement.
