Microsoft might not be done yet in expanding the catalog of video games included in the Xbox Game Pass. It has been recently reported that the Ubisoft+ could be the next major addition to the subscription service.
Xbox Game Pass rumor: Is it getting Ubisoft+ in 2021?
The video game industry is seeing a similar pattern observed in the filmmaking business in recent years. More services are being launched such as EA Play and the Ubisoft+ that practically “streams” video games to its members. The only downside to this trend is that some gamers might not be compelled by the idea of paying multiple subscriptions every month. And to that, getting Xbox Game Pass could be one of the nifty solutions.
A list article from Xbox Worlds recently claimed that UPlay, which is getting rebranded as Ubisoft+, would be added to the Xbox Game Pass library in 2021. The report did not provide any other context other than this could become a reality in the holiday season next year.
For now, fans may still want to take this report with a grain of salt as neither Microsoft nor Ubisoft has provided any indication of this rumored partnership for Xbox Game Pass. On the other hand, it is not entirely impossible considering both companies’ efforts to expand the market for Xbox Game Pass and Ubisoft+.
Why Ubisoft+ could be an important addition to Xbox Game Pass
One of the biggest announcements for Xbox Game Pass this year was the addition of the EA Play catalog. It meant that Xbox Game Pass subscribers are getting more than 80 titles from EA’s studios without having to pay extra fees.
Ubisoft+, on the other hand, became available beyond PC following the launch of its cloud gaming services (beta) via Amazon Luna and Google Stadia. If Ubisoft+ is following EA Play’s footsteps with Xbox Game Pass, it could be a meaningful partnership for both Ubisoft and Microsoft since the latter’s gaming subscription platform is already available on PC, console, and mobile through xCloud.
Xbox Game Pass will also be a winner in this rumored collaboration as this would open a chance to have access to a long list of popular games without paying the Ubisoft+ monthly subscription fee of $14.99. Ubisoft+ catalog boasts more than 100 titles from well-known franchises such as “Far Cry,” “Watch Dogs,” and “Assassin’s Creed.”
