Microsoft unveiled the list of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers available throughout April. The lineup of classic games from Xbox 360 that will be available to newer Xbox systems will be expanded next month with the addition of two classic titles.
Xbox Live Gold free games lineup for April 2021 revealed
The next four games to be made available for free through the Xbox Live Gold service have been named. Two of these titles were originally launched on the Xbox 360 console and will soon be playable on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S through Microsoft’s comprehensive backward compatibility program.
From April 1 to 15, Xbox Live Gold members will have access to “Dark Void.” The game, which originally launched in 2010, features a story set in World War 2 and revolves around the main protagonist Willaim Augusts Grey. Players will navigate Will’s adventure after he is teleported into the Bermuda Triangle, where the character will have to fight human enemies and a villainous alien race.
“Hard Corps: Uprising” will be available for free from April 16 to 30 through Xbox Live Gold. The run-and-gun title was developed by Arc System Works and published by Konami in 2011 for the Xbox 360 and PS3, which also served as a prequel set 20 years before the timeline of the original “Contra” game.
There's something so nice about seeing a price crossed out. It's the little things in life.

The free games for April will also include relatively newer titles, such as “Vikings: Wolves of Midgard,” that can be accessed for the entire month. From April 16 through May 15, the “Truck Racing Championship” will allow Xbox Live Gold members to experiences a simulation of racing competition with 5-ton semi-trucks with 1,000 horsepower.
Xbox Live Gold removal for free-to-play multiplayer advances to beta testing
The reveal of upcoming free games was followed by the announcement that the testing of Xbox Live Gold’s removal as a requirement to play free-to-play multiplayer games has moved forward. Xbox Insiders with access to Beta and Delta preview rings can now try the new feature just a week after it was released for Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead users.
Beta users should also be able to use the Looking 4 Groups, and Party Chat features without Xbox Live Gold subscriptions. Microsoft has yet to announce a release window for when these changes will be available to everyone, but it might be happening soon, considering the test seems to be moving along well.
