The major announcements for Xbox Game Pass subscribers this year might not be over yet. Microsoft is reportedly eyeing another significant addition to its free games library by possibly getting the Ubisoft+ catalog.
Xbox Game Pass might get another major addition in the future
Microsoft has made it clear that Xbox Game Pass is going to be an important aspect of expanding its video games business. And it is also apparent at this point that the company will not limit the available titles in the subscription service with first-party games.
The Xbox Game Pass immediately got a major addition last year when Microsoft added the EA Play catalog for free in the service’s Ultimate tier. Microsoft is now reportedly looking at further expanding the Game Pass library potentially with Ubisoft+.
GamesBeat’s Jeff Grubb reported in a recent podcast that the addition of Ubisoft+ addition to the Xbox Game Pass is something that Microsoft is “trying to make happen.” However, it was also implied that things about this possible deal are still tentative.
Grubb speculates that Microsoft could add new Xbox Game Pass tiers where new services and more games can be accessed. “I do think they are trying to figure out a way to bring Ubisoft+ in,” the gaming journalist added.
However, it is also worth noting that this is not the first time Microsoft is reported to possibly add Ubisoft+ to Xbox Game Pass. Earlier this year, Xbox Worlds listed Ubisoft+ as one of the rumored projects Microsoft has planned for Xbox in 2021.
Why adding the full Ubisoft+ library to Xbox Game Pass could be unlikely
While the idea of having Ubisoft+ in Xbox Game Pass could be exciting for subscribers, some fans have their misgivings about the rumored upgrade. A standalone EA Play monthly subscription only costs $4.99 while Ubisoft+ is offered at $14.99/month. But Unlike EA Play, Ubisoft+ lets its subscribers have unlimited access to the latest Ubisoft-published games.
This has led to suggestions that Microsoft could make a Ubisoft+ deal work by introducing a downscaled version for the Xbox Game Pass. On the other hand, Microsoft could also take another route by getting more Ubisoft-published games to its subscription service.
