Robert Muggah

Associate Lecturer, Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio)
Robert Muggah is a specialist in urban security, humanitarian action and development and associate faculty member at the Pontific Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. He co-founded the Igarapé Institute where he oversees research and technology development. He also co-founded the SecDev Foundation and SecDev Group. Between 2000-2011 he oversaw research at the Small Arms Survey. Robert is affiliated with the University of Oxford, University of San Diego, as well as the Center for Conflict, Development and Peace at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies, in Switzerland. His work on new technology, arms transfers, and fragile cities has been featured in the Atlantic, BBC, CNN, Der Spiegel, Fast Company, Financial Times, the Guardian, New York Times, Quartz, Wired and hundreds of other outlets. He has spoken at TED, Davos, the Web Summit, and dozens of venues around the world. He received his Dphil at the University of Oxford and his MPhil at IDS/University of Sussex.
