Dr Flora Hui (BOptom MPhil PhD) is an optometrist clinician scientist and Research Fellow at the Centre for Eye Research Australia (CERA).
She has over 16 years of clinical experience and a research focus in clinical diagnostics and treatments for eye conditions and improving pathways to eye care. Flora balances life as a clinician, scientist, board director, public speaker and educator. She is dedicated to encouraging the next generation to consider studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) through her work as a Director of the Toyota Community Foundation Australia, which supports programs to boost STEM education and careers across Australia.
Flora is a passionate science communicator and experienced public speaker, with regular appearances on radio, TV and digital media. She has previously appeared on radio (ABC, 3AW, local community radio) and TV (ABC News, Seven and Nine News). She was selected as one of ABC Top 5 (Science) and is a Superstar of STEM. Some of her notable research projects include leading a world first clinical trial for a new glaucoma treatment that can potentially slow vision loss. She now leads the Australian trial in a global collaborative clinical trial to determine its utility as a new treatment for glaucoma.
