Alison was awarded her doctorate in 2015 which drew upon mental patient files to investigate mothers committed into Victorian mental institutions in the early twentieth century.
Currently working in collaboration with the Beechworth Research Team investigating the former Mayday Hills asylum. The former Beechworth Lunatic Asylum built in 1867 still retains a 'sense of place.' The project includes arts-based research, concerning history, genealogy, women, returned soldiers, mental health, and emotional geography.
