Apple is once again facing a seemingly widespread hardware issue that affected a number of iPad Pro 2018 users. Many customers recently confirmed noticing that their newly bought tablets are slightly bent, but Apple says there is no reason to worry.
MacRumors was one of the first to report about the hardware issue found on iPad Pro 2018 through their readers who participated in an online forum in November. The same report shared a photo where an iPad Pro 2018 is not laying flat on the surface demonstrating the bent tablet issue.
Apple responded to the complaints and insisted that the devices’ tendency to bend is not a defect, the Cupertino-based tech giant told The Verge. The company confirmed that some units of iPad Pro 2018 tablets shipped since last month might be received with the noticeable issue.
The company said the issue is purportedly a “side effect” happening during the tablets’ manufacturing once the metal and plastic parts cool down. With that, Apple further explained they do not expect the iPad Pro 2018 tablets to bend any further upon delivery to the customers.
Apple also reiterated that the bending chassis is not expected to affect how iPad Pro 2018 tablets operate, leading to their conclusion that it is not a defect. And following that logic, customers who are uncomfortable about having bent tablets might have limited options in returning the unit they received.
Interestingly, however, a hands-on test shown on YouTube by the JerryRigEverything channel supports the claims that it does not take much effort to completely bend Apple’s newest tablets. The issue seems to affect both the 11- and 12.9-inch variants of the iPad Pro 2018.
The Verge’s report has also confirmed that the AppleCare+ warranty package cannot be applied in this case. Customers who want to replace bent tablets can only do so through the typical 14-day return period allowance.
