Compared to the iPhone 14, the iPhone 15 lineup has a fair number of variations. The basic iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have a Dynamic Island, better cameras, and a somewhat redesigned rear design.
However, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max include a new Action Button, which can be customized for a variety of functions. While the Action Button remains new, Apple intends to change it with the release of the iPhone 16 Pro models.
iPhone 16 Pro Could Come With Unified Volume Buttons, Flush Capture Button
According to MacRumors, Apple has built a prototype of the iPhone 16 Pro with a revised Action Button. The business has been altering the Action and Volume Button designs for its upcoming ‘Pro” iPhone models. It is worth noting that we are currently unaware of Apple's implementation. The company is not only testing the Action Button design but also exploring the prospect of unified Volume Buttons.
According to the outlet, Apple evaluated four prototypes with various button layouts and designs. The button combinations are listed below:
- A smaller Action Button and unified Volume Buttons.
- Large Action Button with New Capture Button and Unified Volume Buttons.
- Large Action Button with separate Capture and Volume Buttons.
- Small Action Button with flushed Capture and Volume Buttons.
The business is presently testing the last option, which involves keeping everything as is and adding a new Capture button that will be flush with the frame of the iPhone 16 Pro. The business has also tried several positions for the Action Button.
Project Bongo Tests Haptic Buttons for iPhone 16 Pro, Apple Explores New Design Possibilities
Since nothing is definitive at this point, the company's testing was part of Project Bongo. The same concept is intended to provide haptic buttons on the iPhone. Haptic buttons were expected to debut with the iPhone 15 Pro models, but the proposal was scrapped due to quality concerns, as per WCCFTech.
In addition to a single extended Volume Button, the iPhone 16 Pro was rumored to feature haptic buttons. Another version with a larger Action Button was also tried; however, the button was too close to the Volume Buttons. Apple's latest "Proto2" design advances the Action Button, which is the same size as the iPhone 15 Pro.
However, the business is still aiming to include a capacitive Capture Button for camera-related applications. How the button will seem in real life remains to be seen.
Apple has lots of time to test the button layout and other functionality because the iPhone 16 Pro isn't available for several months. As we get closer to Apple's mass production stage, we'll learn more about the device's buttons and design.
