iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24 to Retain RAM Specs Despite AI Advancements

iPhone 16 and Galaxy S24 to maintain current RAM levels, despite AI advancements.

With the Pixel 8, Google started the trend of AI phones, and Samsung and Apple were expected to follow suit with the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 16, respectively. Though machine learning has been present in smartphones for some time, the emphasis is currently on generative AI and on-device AI. However, the actual applications do not match the original enthusiasm, which may lead to a shift in Samsung's and Apple's strategies.

Leak Explains Why iPhone 16, Galaxy S24 Will Have Same RAM as its Predecessors

According to @Tech_Reve, investment bank Mizuho Securities anticipates that the Galaxy S24 and iPhone 16 families will feature the same amount of RAM as their predecessors, as per Phone Arena.

The iPhone 15 has 6GB of RAM, and previous speculations said that the iPhone 16 might have 8GB of RAM. This year, the Pro models received an 8GB RAM upgrade. According to today's report, the standard iPhone 16 will continue to have less RAM than the iPhone 16 Pro.

The Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus have 8GB of RAM, while the Ultra has 8GB or 12GB of RAM. According to a recent rumor, the only difference expected this year is the addition of a 12GB Plus model in addition to an 8GB variation. According to these rumors, the RAM count is unlikely to increase. Mizuho Securities claimed that on-device AI will necessitate additional RAM.

According to Mizuho, there are two explanations behind this. For starters, memory prices are projected to rise. Second, real-world applications do not appear to be particularly outstanding. If there isn't much to gain, Apple and Samsung are unlikely to swallow or pass on the expense.

Previously, @Tech_Reve published a Macquarie Group report stating that smartphones with on-device AI require 12GB of RAM for image production and 20GB of RAM for AI assistant services.

Even if Samsung and Apple do not aim to go all-in on AI, we know that their new phones will include some AI-powered capabilities. As a result, we're not sure if sticking with the same RAM setup is a wise choice. Apple is rumored to put AI capabilities into Siri and tout this as one of the iPhone 16's primary selling points.

The Galaxy S24 is expected to include Samsung's Gauss generative AI model. Gauss can make and edit images, send emails, and summarize documents. To better handle rising data needs from AI applications, the corporation may include UFS 4.0 or Universal Flash Storage 4.0.

iPhone 16 Release Date Predictions, Rumored Specs, and Features

Fans anticipate Apple will unveil the iPhone 16 series at a special keynote event on September 10, 2024, the second Tuesday of the month. Furthermore, September 10 is the second Tuesday in September, which has historically been the most popular day for significant iPhone announcements.

This isn't a hard and fast rule, with Apple frequently breaking from it as it has introduced prior iPhone generations on the first Tuesday of September or the second Wednesday of the month. Nonetheless, given past trends, we'd bet on September 10 as the most likely date for the iPhone 16 series' unveiling.

Apple is unlikely to deviate from its well-established naming conventions with the iPhone 16 series. That is why we expect the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max to continue to be traditional and be referred to as such.

Following the announcement of the iPhone 14 series in September 2022, speculative rumors claimed that Apple was working on an iPhone Ultra of sorts for 2023, a radical flagship model that was expected to be much more premium and expensive than your standard iPhone Pro Max model and launch alongside the rest of the iPhone 15 series.

However, as time passed, most of the rumors surrounding the unknown iPhone 15 Ultra variant, specifically the titanium design and a long telephoto zoom camera, gradually shifted towards the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which, as we know, finally became important selling elements of the latter.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will very certainly continue to use the new titanium frame introduced with the iPhone 15 Pro/Pro Max. However, rumors suggest that Apple is planning to reinforce the structure of its upcoming Pro models, as the titanium frame on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max proved to be too rigid for the glass panels of both devices: when subjected to enough bending force, the glass at the back shatters because the titanium frame lacks the flexibility to account for the flexing force.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will almost probably keep the Action Button, which was introduced with the iPhone 15 series and replaced the ring switch. However, the Action Button may also appear on the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, making it a standard feature in the works. As a result, potential iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus buyers will be able to make use of the new hardware element's personalization options.

A new capacitive "Capture" button is another anticipated feature that will most likely be available on all iPhone 16 versions. According to reports, this new button will allow users to swiftly and easily take a picture or begin recording a video.

If configured appropriately, iPhones can do this by hitting the Volume Down button, the camera shutter symbol, or the Action Button. The vertical camera module arrangement, which would regress the design to the iPhone 12 days, could be a significant advancement for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be slightly taller, broader, and heavier than their predecessors, while the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will appear to be the same size as the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. The reported display size increase, which may see the iPhone 16 Pro Max display grow to 6.86 inches and the iPhone 16 Pros screen rise to 6.27 inches, could be the explanation for this growth, MacRumors reports.
