The iPhone SE 2 has been one of the most anticipated products launching from Apple this year. However, the device’s retail release has been postponed for an unknown period as the company reportedly cancels the March unveiling event altogether.
iPhone SE 2 release date and unveiling now in limbo
Apple was expected to announce its new entry-level smartphone this month. The hype around the launch of iPhone SE 2 is likely rooted in the fact that it has been around four years since the company introduced a budget-friendly iPhone.
Unfortunately, it is being reported that fans will have to wait for an indefinite amount of time as Apple ultimately decided to halt iPhone SE 2’s retail launch. A source told Cult of Mac that, aside from the canceled unveiling event this month, Apple also faced persistent delays in the production of the device.
The production delays may have been a stronger factor in the uncertainty on the device’s arrival in stores. An earlier report can be recalled claiming that Apple was considering to replace the grand announcement with a simple website refresh where the iPhone SE 2 would have just shown up on Apple’s online store. That meant that Apple, if not for the rumored production delays, would have still been able to release the iPhone SE 2 in stores this spring.
Meanwhile, it is not surprising that the March event, where other Apple products were expected to be unveiled, was canceled. It was reportedly planned to take place at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino, California. Santa Clara County officials report 66 confirmed cases of COVID-19 infections as of Thursday and have issued a “mandatory order” to cancel mass gatherings – with expected 1,000 attendees – for three weeks starting on March 11.
iPhone SE 2 rumored specs and design
Aside from the expected price of iPhone SE 2, the device is also widely anticipated because of its rumored specs and design. While Apple is expected to keep its cost around $399, various industry sources have claimed that it would sport the A13 Bionic chip – the same processor on the 2019 iPhone series. With the A13, it means the iPhone SE 2 will most likely be supported by the iOS 14 and more updates of the operating system in the years to come.
As for its design, there are plenty of reports claiming that it will not look anything like the 2016 iPhone SE. The device is rumored to have the same bodywork as iPhone 8, which was seemingly backed by a previously leaked image from a known mobile leaker.
