Elon Musk's xAI has made its Grok model free for all X users, broadening access to advanced language and image generation capabilities. Previously exclusive to Premium accounts, Grok now delivers faster speeds, multilingual support, and real-time context integration to every user.
Grok Model Now Free for All X Users
Elon Musk's xAI, an AI startup, has formally debuted the Grok model as a perk for X Premium subscribers but has now made it available to everyone at no cost.
This week, the press release said that xAI, the AI startup controlled by Musk, has made the Grok model available for free to use, after last week's debut of an image-generating model. Although an X account is still necessary to access the language and picture model, a confirmed Premium account is no longer an additional expense.
The business also revealed some of the model's latest updates in an X post. These include the model's integration of web story scraping with real-time X stories and the introduction of a citation tool to facilitate source follow-up.
Grok's Image Creation Model Offers Generative Capabilities
New to Grok is an image creation model that allows users to upload photos or text and receive generative images back.
In addition, X has introduced a Grok button on the timeline that provides easy access to context, related facts, and analytics for any particular post.
Faster Performance and Multilingual Features Elevate Grok
In addition to being three times quicker than its predecessors, the latest Grok version also has higher accuracy overall, new multi-lingual features, and a better capacity to follow human directions.
Last November, xAI introduced Grok, their inaugural product, as a language-only model.
Grok’s Journey From Premium Access to Free Availability
Prior to the platform reducing verification to a single level at $8/month, Teslarati pointed out that the model was exclusively available to X users who paid $16/month for a Premium Plus membership.
Nonetheless, Grok was originally reserved for paying X users only, but Musk hinted that this might alter down the road.
