‘The Winds of Winter’: George RR Martin nearing completion of the book after fans found this clue

George RR Martin made a promise to release “The Winds of Winter” late last month but then, he failed to fulfill his words. At this point, the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series is not yet complete but the author assured fans he is working on it.

Apparently, the long-overdue book is taking time to be published due to GRRM’s busy schedule in recent years. He also signed with HBO for the TV drama adaptation of his “ASOIAF” titled “Game of Thrones” which ran for eight seasons. This could be one major factor why the 71-year-old author was not able to complete “The Winds of Winter” earlier.

GRRM tells fans he will dedicate more time to finish “TWOW”

It has been nine years since the “A Dance with Dragons,” the fifth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, was released. With this continuously missed deadlines, Martin said that he is also frustrated with himself. He admitted that he could have finished “The Winds of Winter” a long time ago but he did not.

This was why in his latest update about his progress in writing “TWOW,” GRRM said that he will focus on the book from now on so he can really finish it this time. To prove his sincerity, the author revealed he is in the mountains and confined in a cabin to have no distractions.

“I am spending long hours every day on ‘THE WINDS OF WINTER’ and making steady progress,” GRRM wrote on his “Not a Blog” site. “I finished a new chapter yesterday, another one three days ago, another one the previous week.”

Fans noticed a clue that Martin is in the last phase of finishing ‘TWOW’

Fans are convinced George RR Martin will be able to deliver the book by 2021. This is their assumption after finding a clue on the author’s recent post.

On Reddit’s discussion board for “The Winds of Winter,” fans were saying that Martin may already be in the last round of editing the book. Thus, it may be released earlier than expected.

Fans are saying they are confident with the 2021 release because Martin posted last time that he was able to finish few chapters in a week. They pointed out that this is quite fast for an author to complete “few” chapters so it could mean Martin is already working on his finishing touches and last round of editing.

“This is a very fast pace of writing and suggests to me that George is editing and finalizing existing chapters rather than writing completely new ones,” one fan wrote. “Specifically, I think it's possible that George has written a full draft of TWOW and is now doing a final round of editing before submitting the book for publication.”
