The Walking Dead is a beloved franchise that already has a critically-acclaimed video game series from Telltale. With a recent reveal trailer, fans of the property now have another game based on the zombie series to look forward to and this time, it’s an online four-player co-op title. A few details are still missing, but based on the videos released, the game is looking good.
The game is being developed by Overkill and Starbreeze Studios, which a lot of gamers might know as the developers of another four-player co-op franchise; Payday. The premise of the upcoming zombie survival simulator appears to be quite suitable to the universe of The Walking Dead, wherein teammates kill both undead and living enemies in order to make their base stronger, PC Gamer reports.
Set in the ruins of Washington D.C., the trailers released so far depict a world that is already overrun with Walkers. One of the videos featured one of the playable characters in the game, Aiden. He is introduced recalling his life before the dead walked the earth before coming back to the present and proceeded to enjoy bashing their heads in.
As for the gameplay, it follows a similar pattern to other four-player co-op titles, in which each character will have their own specialties and abilities. In Overkill’s The Walking Dead, each character will also have their own story arcs. The game is scheduled for launch in Fall 2018.
For fans of the comic book and TV franchise, there’s no need to worry since the game was apparently made with the blessing of Robert Kirkman, the creator of the property himself. Apparently, Kirkman was quite impressed with the title and said that it’s a "co-op action game fans have been waiting for," Gamespot reports.
The partnership is apparently slated to last well "into the next decade", as well. That’s a lot of multiplayer zombie-slaying action.
