‘American Crime’ season 3’s episode 5 will follow Shae as she contemplates another abortion while entering online prostitution work. Meanwhile, Jeanette struggles with her self-worth and is forced to make an important decision when faced with a seemingly discouraging situation.
The lengthy synopsis for episode 5 posted on TV Guide reads, “Shae (Ana Mulvoy-Ten) mulls another abortion as Dustin introduces her to online sex work.
Meanwhile, Jeanette (Felicity Huffman) makes a life-altering decision; Kimara (Regina King) finds a new troubled girl to help; Nicholas (Timothy Hutton) and Clair's (Lili Taylor) world continues to crumble; and Gabriella has a scary incident that makes her realize how dangerous her new life is.”
The upcoming episode will follow more trials for the characters of the third season of ABC’s critically-acclaimed crime-drama anthology television series focused on forced labor and immigration. Shae is set to contemplate having another abortion while being introduced into another aspect of the prostitiution industry – online sex work.
Meanwhile, Jeanette will be forced to make a decision in a seemingly discouraging situation while struggling to value her self-worth. Kimara, on the other hand, will find another trouble girl to help while Nicholas and Clair’s lives take a turn for the worst.
Gabriella also discovers that her new life is much dangerous than she ever anticipated after experiencing a scary and disturbing incident.
The previous episode saw Luis’ (Benito Martinez) story arc reaching a climax. Martinez’ undocumented immigrant worker who arrived in the United States with a mission of finding his missing son finally took matters into his own hands upon discovering his son’s death. He finally confronted Jefe Isaac (Richard Cabral) about the incident and took drastic action.
During an interview with Variety, Martinez talked about Luis’ breaking point in the previous episode. The actor said, “That was a huge discussion point, because I didn’t know that that was the journey until I got to number four and I went, ‘What?... How do you connect these dots?’”
He continued, “And then, as they shot it — and I shot, you know, in that complex situation of emotions — I realized that he doesn’t intend to kill him until they have the conversation. He intends to threaten him. What Luis tries to do is keep the battlefield even as much as he can… So when he has to confront one of the guys in charge, he makes sure to get a gun, because he knows this guy’s dangerous.”
Martinez added, “It’s when the guy dismisses his son, like some sort of trash, that Luis realizes the world’s better off without him… And then once that decision’s made and the trigger’s pulled … It’s the worst decision he’s ever made, and he has to now live with that. That’s where the rest of Luis’s story is.”
‘American Crime’ season 3’s episode 5 is scheduled to air on ABC on April 9, 2017. It was directed by Tanya Hamilton and written by Keith Huff. It will be followed by episode 6 directed by Ramsey Nickell and scheduled to be released on April 16.
