Multiple reports are saying that the ‘American Idol” reboot is apparently eager to recruit singer Lionel Richie as one of the show’s judges. TMZ, who first reported the news, said the 67 year-old singer was said to be a popular choice among the list of celebrities the ABC reboot is eyeing on simply because of his credibility.
Hollywood.com said Richie, who is famous for his hit ballad “Hello,” has been in the music industry in the last fifty years, and is not showing signs of slowing down. Richie first started with a music group called the Commodores, but later ventured out on his own in 1982.
President of ABC Entertainment Channing Dungey previously said in a statement, ““American Idol” is a pop-culture staple that left the air too soon. ABC is the right home to reignite the fan base. We are thrilled viewers will once again share in these inspiring stories of people realizing their dreams.”
Richie is not the only celebrity linked to “American Idol” reboot. Pop singer Katy Perry was recently confirmed to be a judge in the show, Just Jared said.
But if there’s one other celebrity who is not interested in the reboot, you don’t need to look far. Mariah Carey, who was one of the celebrity judges back in 2013, didn’t exactly need to say a lot about her disinterest in the new season, Buzzfeed said.
When an interviewer asked her thoughts about the reboot, Carey said sarcastically while holding two thumbs up, “Yay.” When she was prodded further, she said nonchalantly, “I’m riveted… I know as much about that show as I do being a mechanic.”
