We've all seen how Android is gradually getting more intuitive and for all the right reasons. Google has added several pretty useful features to the OS over the last few revisions and even feature drops. According to a new claim, Android 15 may finally include battery health options, allowing you to see how long your battery can keep a charge.
Android 15: ‘Vanilla Ice Cream’ OS May Display Battery Health
It's worth emphasizing that it is not a duplicate of Apple, as per Android Authority. True, iOS has had this capability for a long time, but other Android features have also made their way to iOS. As a result, we must put this topic to rest right now.
The functionality was already available following the December feature drop. However, it can only be reached after some tinkering, and even then, you won't be able to see much information. The battery health is not displayed, likely since this capability will be available in full with Android 15 next year.
It is important to note that Android 15 will not be available for another year, and given the feature drops that Google will be providing, this could arrive before the next big operating system release. Whatever the case may be, I am grateful that Google has decided to work on this because it is past time for a feature of this importance to be available to everyone.
Android 15: Everything We Know About ‘Vanilla Ice Cream’ OS
With the brand overhaul of Android 10, Google abandoned its dessert naming scheme for Android. However, the use of dessert names has persisted for the company's internal development teams.
Android 11 was dubbed Red Velvet, whereas Android 12 was dubbed Snow Cone. Similarly, Android 13 is known as Tiramisu, while Android 14 is known as Upside Down Cake. Google has now been much more forthcoming regarding internal development names, and Android 15 is known as Vanilla Ice Cream.
There is no set release date for Android 15, but we expect it to follow the same pattern as prior years. Android 14 was released as a developer preview in February 2023, followed by another developer preview, then four more beta versions until the final release of Android 14, with the debut of the Google Pixel 8 series in October 2023. We should expect the first developer preview of Android 15 to arrive around the same time, according to XDA Developers.
If Google follows the same release schedule as last year, developers should expect Android 15 to reach "platform stability" around the third beta. Platform stability refers to the completion of APIs, which occurred last year in conjunction with the possibility for developers to submit apps targeting the new API level to the Google PlayStore.
