Asics Corp. and Casio Computer Co. have collaborated to offer a special app with a sensor device that would improve the jogging and training styles of runners of all levels.
The app will analyze users’ running styles and offer advice on enhancing their techniques.
The sensor device, designed to be worn around the waist, is set for release in March. A free app for smartphones, dubbed the Runmetrix, was offered on Jan. 27.
The sensor collects information on body movements and locations and then evaluates the runner in such categories as the swing of the pelvis and angle of the body trunk.
Training methods that fit the user’s purpose for running will be suggested on the app.
The system could also be connected to Casio’s G-Shock watch to detect and notify the user of instability in running form.
A G-Shock watch with a sensor unit will cost $548 after tax.
The two companies are considering establishing a joint company this year to promote the service and are eyeing sales of around 10 billion yen and 5 million registered users of the app in five years.
