The upcoming action, RPG, hack n’ slash, kung fu simulator Biomutant was showed off during the recently concluded PC Gamer Weekender and the developers hit a home run. Granted, the only features that were on display are the character customization and some of the weapon crafting, but they are staggeringly exciting.
Although other games have similar systems in their character customization, Biomutant offers players the opportunity to have their virtual persona reflect their abilities and skills. It essentially involves moving a cursor through a grid, which then changes both the appearance and the stats of the characters. Attributes that can be changed include things like strength and intelligence, PCGamesN reports, and the resulting character is a reflection of that.
Once the character has been completed, its stats can be boosted with skill points as players gain experience, which makes Biomutant an RPG in almost every sense of the phrase. Studio head Stefan Ljungqvist said as much while giving the presentation during the event.
Along with the character customization, Ljungqvist also showed off some of the aspects of the crafting system in the game, specifically with regards to the weapons. Apparently, there are more than 500,000 possible combinations in the game, where the players cobble together different bits of junk to make guns or crossbows.
With regards to the game itself, it would appear that the story of Biomutant revolves around the typical world-saving fare where the players need to defeat several bosses that are apparently poisoning the giant tree that makes up the world of the game, Kotaku reports. Based on the footage that exhibits the combat mechanics, the game also seems quite promising in the smoothly creative shooting and slashing arena.
The character is even seen bouncing off of mushroom while throwing in crossbow, sword, and then gun combos. Players who like being inventive in fighting enemies will likely love what this game has to offer.
