Britain and the European Union are intensifying pressure on Russia while boosting defense initiatives as EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas meets UK Foreign Minister David Lammy and Defense Minister John Healey in London on Tuesday. The discussions focus on enhancing support for Ukraine and increasing economic measures against Moscow, according to the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
The meeting will also address countering hybrid threats, including cyberattacks, election interference, and Russian disinformation. Kallas and Lammy aim to advance European defense spending through innovative initiatives, bolstering military readiness in coordination with NATO.
Lammy emphasized the importance of strengthening the UK-EU partnership to ensure security and push for an end to the war. Meanwhile, Kallas dismissed Russia’s ceasefire conditions, stating they reveal Moscow’s unwillingness to achieve real peace.
On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to speak with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding a potential ceasefire. Trump has been advocating a 30-day ceasefire proposal that Ukraine accepted last week.
As geopolitical tensions rise, the UK and EU's coordinated efforts underscore their commitment to countering Russian aggression while reinforcing European security.
