The PC version of Destiny 2 recently launched and already, it is getting into controversy. A lot of players are reporting that they are getting banned simply for using harmless software while playing the game. In response, Bungie proceeded to call these players a bunch of liars. According to the developers, it has not banned players unfairly for simply using software like Discord or Fraps. As it turns out, it actually did.
Destiny 2 launched on PC on Tuesday, which was supposed to be a happy event. Finally, PC players can enjoy what many reviewers have described as a beautiful FPS game. Unfortunately, shortly after launch, players started complaining that they were unjustly banned. They believe that they were removed from the game due to software like Open Broadcaster Software in the background, Kotaku reports.
This is not exactly the smooth start that Bungie was hoping for, which is why it recently posted a statement saying that no such unjust banning happened. Apparently, of the 400 people that have been banned so far, none were using any of the software mentioned. The developers also noted that players are not banned automatically since Bungie manually reviews cases first.
“We did not (and will not) issue any bans for the use of overlays or performance tools, including Discord, Xsplit, OBS, RTSS, etc.,” the post read until Bungie was forced to issue an update the reads, “As part of our ban review process, we have identified a group of players who were banned in error. Those players have been unbanned. The bans were not related to the third-party applications listed above. We will continue to review the process we use to ensure a fun and fair game.”
As it turns out, Bungie really was banning people for no good reason and now, their supposed “manual review” process has come into question. This is unfortunate because Destiny 2 is already facing a ton of issues for everything from its microtransaction to its PVP/PVE balancing problem.
