If you have watched the recent episode of the hit TV series ‘CSI: Cyber’ then surely every one of us have learned a lesson or two from it. In last Sunday’s episode titled “5 Deadly Sins”, the team has to find the person responsible for killing off people who have committed the said deadly sins namely Hate Speech, Porn, Violence, Drugs and Trolling. Spoilers will be mentioned here so beware for those who haven’t seen it.
Three internet users have already faced the wrath of the unknown killer. First one was a pastor named Aiden Harrison who used social media to shout out his sentiments and beliefs on gay marriage that offended the target. He was discovered dead because the killer also hacked his account to show the world that he had been murdered and that what he said hadn’t been right.
Next were couples Nicole Hogan and Greg Roberts, where Nicole posted nude photos of herself online, which is a violation of Picthread, the networking website’s terms of use policy. After the couple were found dead, another set of pictures were found on the barcode imbedded on the couple’s skin. Fortunately, Mundo was able to get to the victim alive who was apparently a drug addict.
It sure was a very big issue especially when you kill people just because they posted dumb stuff on the internet. The killer could have at least report them for violating the policies but no he/she opted on killing them instead.
And so who really is the killer? It turned out that it was a woman named Sasha Boyd, a content moderator working at Picthread’s Boston headquarters, who expressed her sentiments about internet use saying that, “that social media should be a safe place for everyone and not a place where people can post graphic photographs of things that are inhumane”.
Sasha’s work clearly got into her mind knowing that she has to regulate all the things that are posted on the website, sifting through graphic photos every day.
In order for the team to get their hands on Sasha, they set up a teenager that would taunt his victims into committing suicide and then post pictures of the funeral online, as some sort of sick trophy. Sasha then got a hold of him. The bureau was able to save the teen and get a hold of Sasha only to discover that was her plan all along, to kill herself and post all the things that she did online.
It really was an intense episode. So which part of the episode did you like best? Comment them below.
