Carmelo Anthony still doesn’t have a team despite the 2019-2020 season only a few months away. The guy hasn’t even been inside an NBA court 10 months after parting ways with the Houston Rockets.
In a recent interview with NBA pundit Stephen A. Smith in “First Take,” Carmelo Anthony provided some insight about his rather tumultuous and short-lived stint with the Rockets. ‘Melo said that he felt fired when general manager Daryl Morey said that his “services are no longer needed.”
That’s after Carmelo Anthony played just 10 games with his new team. Obviously, the news came as a massive hit to the confidence of the 35-year-old as he started questioning his ability and whether or not he’s still worthy of being part of any team.
Carmelo Anthony believes coach Mike D’Antoni didn’t play a role in his exit with Rockets
With the Rockets using a 10-man rotation on a given night, it was indeed interesting why Morey and coach Mike D’Antoni opted to keep Carmelo Anthony on the bench. This is doubly true since the future Hall of Famer has accepted his new role of being part of the team’s second unit.
When Smith asked Carmelo Anthony if he felt D’Antoni had anything to do with the decision, he said that he believes the coach wasn’t in on it. It can be recalled that the two men had a rocky relationship in the past when they were both working for the New York Knicks. Hence, Smith’s question.
Carmelo Anthony is ready if this is the last chapter of his NBA career
But it appears that the decision to sideline Carmelo Anthony permanently came from Morey alone. Chris Paul and James Harden apparently didn’t know either as revealed by Anthony himself. Last month, rumors would have it that the Lakers and Warriors may be interested in adding the perineal shooter into their roster.
But the Lakers are apparently reserving their last spot for Andre Iguodala. Meanwhile, the Warriors have been quiet about this front, and there’s no indication that they’re willing to take a gamble on Carmelo Anthony. As such, ‘Melo said if this is the last stretch of his career, then he would be at peace with it. But he also clarified that he hasn’t given up just yet and is still working on his body to prepare himself for the day that he’ll finally get the call that he’s been waiting for.
