Chick-fil-A, one of the largest fast-food and restaurant chains in the U.S., is looking for a way to help with the oil shortage and made the decision to team up with Darling Ingredients to convert its used cooking oils into transportation fuel.

Chick-fil-A and Darling Ingredients’ partnership was revealed this week, and this was the solution the restaurant has found to help contribute with reducing food waste as well as greenhouse gases. The restaurant would like to make sure that its used cooking oils will not be wasted or simply stuffed in landfills but can be turned into something else and re-used once again.

To achieve this goal, Darling Ingredients which, a developer and producer of sustainable natural ingredients, announced that Chick-fil-A chose them to be its partner. It will be helping the fast-food chain in converting its gallons of used cooking oil into cleaner-burning renewable transportation fuel.

As per Fox Business, Darling’s DAR PRO Solutions will be collecting the oils at Chick-fil-A’s restaurant outlets across the United States and Canada. For easy collection, the company will be providing the chain with grease containers then the used cooking oil recycling company will work on it based on the volume and tank capacity.

DAR PRO Solutions explains that it operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to get rid of the used cooking oil from stores it is servicing without interrupting operations so Chick-fil-A can continue to serve their customers even while the oil removal process is ongoing. Once the oils are drawn out, DAR PRO processes them for another use at its nearest biosecure processing plant.

“We admire Chick-fil-A’s commitment to reducing food waste and are proud to be part of a solution that keeps food waste out of our landfills while delivering a renewable fuel that reduces GHG emissions,” Darling Ingredients’s executive vice president, renewables and U.S. specialty operations, Sandra Dudley, said in a press release.

Chick-fil-A’s vice president of corporate social responsibility, Rodney Bullard, also said, “At Chick-fil-A, we are committed to caring and that includes caring for others through our food and caring for our planet.”

Finally, Bullard said that its team up with DAR PRO Solutions will surely help Chick-fil-A to become responsible advocates of the resources at their restaurants. He said that this will also let them “support the future of renewable transportation fuel.”
