Daily Harvest issued a new statement weeks after it voluntarily recalled its French Lentil and Leek Crumbles. The company that specializes in Chef-crafted meal deliveries announced that it has finally found what may be causing the illness of some customers.
As per CNN Business, Daily Harvest has been working with the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) in finding what exactly is making people sick after consuming its crumbles product. The investigations have been going on for a few weeks now and the company’s last update stated that it failed to find the problem.
Then again, Daily Harvest’s chief founder and chief executive officer, Rachel Drori, assured their customers that they will not stop testing until they find the source of the sickness. A week after this message was posted, the CEO released a new notice and revealed they have finally found the possible cause of the illnesses such as gastrointestinal illness and abnormal liver function.
“At this time, we have identified tara flour as the cause of the issue. Our extensive investigation has involved many experts analyzing data from all sources,” Drori, said in a statement. “We have only used this ingredient in French Lentil + Leek Crumbles and we are no longer sourcing from this producer who does not provide any ingredients for our 140+ other items.”
She went on to say, “This was the first and only time we have used tara flour, which has been available and used in the North American market as a plant-based source of protein prior to our use. Our investigation team will continue working with the FDA, the tara flour producer and others to help determine what specifically made people sick.”
While Daily Harvest identified the tara flour as the culprit, it has never mentioned the producer of the product. The company was sued after some customers complained they developed mysterious illnesses after consuming the French Lentil & Lee Crumbles.
Most of the complainants are online influencers who have tested the product through their online channels as a way of promoting the item to the public. However, some of them became seriously ill and even required hospitalizations, so they filed a lawsuit.
