“Destiny 2: Forsaken,” as one would expect, will be a collection of new gameplay contents to keep the fan base excited. However, developers of “Destiny 2” are most excited about introducing a game mode that features both player-versus-environment (PvE) and player-versus-player (PvP) modes.
Game developer Bungie released the official video reveal for the “Destiny 2: Forsaken” expansion map on Tuesday. And one of the highlight additions is the new approach to PvE and PvP gaming, as noted by Eurogamer.
The addition of new PvE and PvP gameplay is best manifested in the new mode called Gambit. One of the developers compared Gambit to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with added bacon while another developer simply described it as the marriage of PvE and PvP gaming.
Gambit is a competitive game mode that will pit two teams of four against each other. At the beginning of every match, competing squads will face one another and can taunt their opponents using the in-game emotes. After showing off, the real action begins when both teams are brought to separate arenas.
The PvE aspect will be experienced by the presence of AI combatants that will assault the players in the entire game. But killing them will let players collect dropping Motes. These Motes can later be deposited to a bank located somewhere in the arena.
Deposited Motes can be seen as a key element to the PvP aspect of Gambit mode. As one team deposits Motes, they can use that to order a “blocker” that will drop on the other team’s arena. Until these blockers are defeated, that team members cannot use their Motes bank. This also means that they have to deal with the blocker and the AI combatants at the same time, thus, dividing their attention.
The quick collection of Motes also plays a very important role in winning Gambit matches. Once a bank is completely filled up with Motes, the team can then summon the Primevil. And the first team to defeat the Primevil in its arena wins the game.
There are a whole lot more contents arriving with the “Forsaken” expansion map, including two new destinations called The Tangled Shore and The Dreaming City.
The new weapon system in “Forsaken” is obviously making Bungie developers’ eyes light up with excitement. Aside from adding more options to customize guns and armors, one very notable change is allowing players to load up three shotguns at once.
“Destiny 2: Forsaken” will be released on Sept. 4.
