“Doctor Who” Season 11 has been a massive hit for BBC as the installment managed to smash the show’s own record with regards to premiere viewership. Express reported that the first episode of this season accumulated 10.9 million views for the network, overtaking its previous record, which was 10.8 million back in 2005.
Of course, it would be sort of unfair to compare the two since in 2005 people didn’t have a lot of smartphones and tablets back then where they could freely watch the science fiction series. Indeed, the latest figure included people who watched the “Doctor Who” Season 11 premiere on their laptops, PC, phones, and tablets.
But even though this is the case, the viewer count is still an impressive figure, especially since “Doctor Who” Season 11 was expected to cause a popularity decline due to casting choice. While some fans didn’t mind that The Doctor has been cast a woman – the first time in its 54-year history – others weren’t so keen about the change. Perturbed followers of the science fiction drama took to social media to accuse BBC of pandering to the wave of feminism movement that has taken over other franchises in recent years.
Now, that uncertainty has been put to rest as Jodie Whittaker proved she can truly carry the mantle of The Doctor on her shoulder. Her companions are doing a stellar job as supporting cast members as well, with Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Graham (Bradley Walsh) the most notable among the four. The next episode of “Doctor Who” Season 11 will take The Doctor and her companion to the deep southern parts of America, where they will meet Rosa Parks (played by Vinette Robinson).
The era, of course, was during the civil rights movement, where Parks played a huge role in the outcome of this historic milestone. And since Parks is involved, The Doctor quickly suspects that someone is trying to change the course of history, which will involve the rest of the team in a journey to stop whoever is trying to tamper with the timeline. The third episode of “Doctor Who” Season 11 is titled “Rosa” and is slated to air on Oct. 21.
