Domino’s Australia is testing a new kind of pizza, and it is quite refreshing. The pizza fast-food chain got the idea through a viral TikTok post, and the company decided to make its own version.
According to Fox News, Domino’s Australia tested the watermelon pizza recipe but gave its version its own twist. The creator of the fruity pizza, Oliver Paterson, posted his creation on TikTok, and it quickly went viral. He told the publication that he discovered that the watermelon pizza came out best with barbecue sauce.
Now Domino’s Australia wants to try it out, too, and the original creator was said to be not so impressed with the outcome. But still, the pizza chain believes it created a good version of the watermelon pizza.
Domino’s Australia stated that it made fruity pizza as many customers have been asking for a low-carb option. The company posted its review video online after creating the new doughless pizza and credited Paterson, who is also known as “El Burrito Monster,” as the source of the pizza flavor’s inspiration.
It was reported that while Paterson used barbecue sauce as the base for his watermelon pizza and topped with chorizo, Domino’s Australia created its own version using tomato sauce and pepperoni slices as toppings. Of course, there is mozzarella cheese, and it was baked in the oven.
As mentioned earlier, Paterson was not so impressed with Domino’s watermelon pizza and commented that the pizza maker could have had a better experience if it followed his original recipe. At any rate, Domino’s said that they are giving this pizza flavor a go, and it can also be an answer to requests for low-carb pizzas.
"I’ve seen people attempt to recreate it but get the key details wrong to make it work – the watermelon needs to be cooked before the toppings go on to remove as much moisture as possible to avoid a soggy mess," Paterson said via direct message on Instagram. "Also it’s very vital to use BBQ sauce rather than marinara/tomato. BBQ is already a tried and tested flavor combination with watermelon.”
But then again, the restaurant did not actually say if they will be officially launching the watermelon pizza. Meanwhile, The Daily Mail reported that not many people like the watermelon pizza, and they expressed their disapproval of the creation and one comment even reads: “This looks incredibly vile,” and another one said, “What the f*** I am Italian, and this is an insult for us.”
