Officials suspected an assassination attempt on Donald Trump to have occurred during his event, which resulted in gunfire that left him hurt and bloodied. This incident sparked a significant outcry across the internet.

Following the announcement that gunshots were fired at the rally held by the former president in Butler, Pennsylvania, Google searches for the phrases "Donald Trump dead," "Donald Trump funeral," and "Donald Trump death" all experienced large jumps on Saturday.

The Associated Press claimed that the Trump campaign acknowledged that the former President of the United States was "fine" and that he was evaluated at a medical facility after the incident.

The presumptive Republican nominee and the rally shooting also led the trending topics list on X, once known as Twitter. Photos and video footage of Trump soon after the tragedy went viral, contributing to the rise in the number of searches conducted on Google.

Donald Trump Injured, One Dead in Pennsylvania Rally Shooting; Secret Service Neutralizes Shooter

After being injured in a shooting at a rally in the swing state of Pennsylvania that resulted in the death of one spectator and the injury of two others on July 13, Donald Trump was reported to be "safe."

As the Financial Times reported, after the shots were fired, the Republican presidential candidate knelt to the ground and was rapidly led offstage to his motorcade by armed Secret Service agents. Blood was evident on his right ear and streaked his cheek as he pumped his fists.

Trump responded favorably to his Truth. He utilized a social media platform on July 13 evening to announce that he had been “shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.”

“Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead,” the former president said.

The US Secret Service, which is tasked with the protection of current and former presidents, reported that "a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue."

The statement from agency spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi further stated that Secret Service agents "neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased."

The agency verified that one spectator was fatally injured, and two others were critically injured. It also stated that Trump is "safe and undergoing evaluation."

The incident's footage appeared to depict a Secret Service agent uttering the phrase "shooter is down."Richard Goldinger, the district attorney of Butler County, verified that one individual who was directly behind Trump was fatally injured and that another rally attendee was in critical condition at a nearby hospital. He stated that the shooter was slain.

First Presidential Shooting in Decades Shakes Campaign; Secret Service Tightens Security Measures

The first time in decades that a current or former president has been the victim of a shooting is the apparent assault on Trump's life. The dramatic incident can potentially disrupt an already turbulent presidential campaign, with less than four months until November's polling day.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” Trump said in his post. “Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.” He also offered his condolences to the families of the killed and injured attendees.

The incident occurred mere days before the commencement of the Republican National Convention, during which Trump was scheduled to formally accept his party's presidential nomination.

Guglielmi announced on X that the Secret Service, which is accountable for safeguarding current and former presidents, has implemented protective measures.

“This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available,”he said. The FBI said it would work jointly with the Secret Service on the investigation.

In a televised address, US President Joe Biden disclosed that he had attempted to contact Trump, but the former president was with his physicians.

“Apparently he’s doing well,” said Biden, in brief remarks from the police department in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, where he has a holiday home. “I hope I get to speak with him tonight.”

“I have an opinion but I don’t have any facts,” Biden said when asked if this had been an assassination attempt.

The president condemned the attack, saying: “There’s no place in America for this kind of violence. It’s sick. It’s sick. It’s one of the reasons why we have to unite this country.”

“You cannot allow for this to be happening. You cannot be like this. We cannot condone this,” Biden continued. “The bottom line is that the Trump rally is a rally that he should have been able to [conduct] peacefully without any problem.”

Joe Biden Campaign Pauses Ads; Global Leaders Condemn Violence After Trump Rally Shooting Incident

According to a Biden campaign official, the president's re-election campaign is "working to pull down our television ads as quickly as possible" and has halted all outbound communications.

The incident occurred mere minutes after Trump commenced his speech at a supporters rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, a rural community in the state's northwest region. A witness reported to CNN that he heard between seven and eight shots discharged. The Secret Service, in collaboration with local authorities, typically implements airport-style security measures at the rallies of the former president.

According to the White House, Kimberly Cheatle, the Secret Service director, Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, and Homeland Security adviser Liz Sherwood-Randall they provided Biden with an "initial briefing" on the incident.

Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the US House, stated on X that he had been informed of the situation and was "prayerfully thinking of President Trump." Others conveyed similar sentiments, including Mike Pence, Trump's former vice president.

Numerous prominent Democrats reiterated the former president's support.

Chuck Schumer, the Senate’s top Democrat, said in a statement that he was “horrified by what happened,” adding: “Political violence has no place in our country.”

Nancy Pelosi, a veteran Democratic member of the US Congress and former president Barack Obama, echoed this sentiment. Hakeem Jeffries, a senior Democrat in the US House, expressed gratitude for the"decisive law enforcement response."

Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, and Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, were among the international leaders who expressed their astonishment at the attack and offered their support.

Elon Musk, owner of X, Tesla, and SpaceX, said he “fully” endorsed Trump and hoped for a full recovery. “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt,” he wrote on the platform.
