President Donald Trump is actively campaigning for his reelection in November, and he recently made a stop at New Hampshire to visit his supporters from the state. In the midst of his pandering to his supporters, Trump unusually called for former President Barack Obama’s impeachment.
Politicalflare reports that Trump visited New Hampshire for his rally. He naturally mentioned the highlights from his State of the Union address last week, including complaining about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s speech-ripping behind him. At the mention of Pelosi, Trump supporters chanted “Lock her up!” a scenario reminiscent of the 2016 elections at the mention of Hillary Clinton. Trump agreed with the chants and continued mocking Pelosi. “No, it was very distracting, I’m speaking, and a woman is mumbling terribly behind me, angry.”
Trump continued his anti-immigrant tirade by reciting the poem “The Snake” again. He followed the poem by saying that all undocumented immigrants are homeless without a permanent address. However, Trump later talked about how Republicans should have former President Obama impeached as he apparently lied about Obamacare. “We should impeach him for that, why aren’t we impeaching him?” said Trump during the rally. It seems unusual to impeach someone who has already served their time in office and netizens were quick to point that detail out when a clip of his remarks towards his predecessor was shared online. “He doesn’t understand how impeachment works,” said one commenter.
Meanwhile, Senator and former Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney had already predicted the amount of backlash he will receive from fellow Republicans following the Senate impeachment trial. Romney was the sole Republican who voted to impeach Trump, voting to convict on the first article of impeachment which was abuse of power.
The Senator took to the floor to explain his decision to convict following the results of the trial. Trump, predictably, took jabs at Romney during the National Prayer Breakfast, saying how he does not like people who use their faith to justify their supposedly wrong actions. White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham and Trump’s eldest son Donald Trump Jr. have also taken jabs at the Senator, with the latter saying that Romney be removed from the GOP.
However, Democrats, publications, and critics of the Trump administration praised Romney for choosing to follow his faith and putting the country first before his party. Democratic Presidential Candidates Elizabeth Warren and Andrew Yang have also praised Romney’s vote.
