The COVID-19 pandemic in the United States has already forced many Americans into unemployment and following the expiration of federal relief efforts, many Americans are also in danger of failing to make rent and homelessness. Donald Trump, through the Centers for Disease Control, has taken action to prevent Americans from getting evicted throughout the pandemic.
The White House released a statement regarding the actions Trump is taking to prevent Americans from getting evicted. Following the signing of the Executive Order that will protect American renters and homeowners from eviction, the CDC will now exercise its authority by preventing evictions until the end of 2020. The objective of the order is to prevent the further spreading of COVID-19 through evictions.
Renters cannot be evicted if they have exhausted their means of being able to pay rent as well as seek government assistance in making rent and will likely become homeless because of eviction. However, those who will avail of this assistance will still be required to pay rent as stipulated in their respective leases and landlords will still exercise the right to evict tenants who are engaging in criminal activity, destroying property, or pose as a threat to the health and safety of other residents.
“It is essential during the pandemic that Americans have an effective place to quarantine, isolate, and social distance, and evicting people from residences undermines that objective,” said the statement.
Meanwhile, following the loss of Joe Kennedy in the primaries in a bid for the Senate against Edward Markey, Trump claimed on Twitter that Kennedy’s loss was because of the “Radical Left Democrats,” reiterating his claims that the Democratic party is being controlled by the far-left Liberals or Progressives. This would be the first time a member of the Kennedy family lost an election in the state of Massachusetts. Trump continued to accuse Biden of being a “puppet of the Radical Left.”
“See, even a Kennedy isn’t safe in the new Radical Left Democrat Party. Taxes up big, no 2A. Biden has completely lost control. Pelosi strongly backed the loser!” tweeted Trump.
While Pelosi endorsed Kennedy, Markey was endorsed by progressives like Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Elizabeth Warren.
