Anyone can agree that when moving into a home that was previously occupied, the new occupants will naturally mold the home into their own preferences. In the case of President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, Donald reportedly went with his own preferences in the decor of the White House, ignoring his wife’s choices on the way.
Political Flare reports that as the President and First Lady moved in the White House, they made it a point to mold the place into their own, just as their predecessors have done. Melania has previously been reported to have chosen the decor and furniture before moving in several months later. However, it appears that while she had not yet moved in, Donald had already begun overlooking her choices in decor and furniture and replaced it with a lot of gold decor, even replacing the furniture Melania chose for the house.
Given her experience in fashion, Melania preferred clean, modern lines when it came to interiors. Contrary to his wife’s choices, Donald replaced some of Melania’s chosen furniture with pieces that he preferred more. The president is known for having a more opulent taste in interior decor, and it seems to shed light on Trump not even giving way to his own wife’s requests.
However, Melania’s spokesperson Stephanie Grisham, stated that the final choice in decor for the White House was done by both of them. Then again, knowing that Melania sleeps in a separate room from her husband, her taste in furniture might show more in there compared to the rest of the White House.
Another example of Donald seemingly overlooking Melania’s work is in his previous State of the Union addresses. Politico reports that based on transcripts of his addresses over the past three years as President, he has yet to mention Melania’s Be Best anti-bullying initiative. His predecessors always made it a point to mention the campaigns of their wives, but it seems that the Trump administration did it differently by not mentioning Melania’s campaign at all. It remains to be seen if he will do that this time in the upcoming State of the Union address this year.
