Blizzard has been teasing fans about Doomfist since Overwatch was announced, with actor Terry Crews even campaigning to be his voice actor. After numerous disappointments, the offensive character is finally here and made quite the entrance. He may not have been voiced by Crews, Doomfist still made quite the impact on the internet and he is now playable.
Looking at the trailer released by Blizzard, it’s easy to see that Doomfist is an offensive character. His real name is Akande Ogundimu, which would suggest a native African nationality. This is further emphasized by his accent.
In any case, the new addition is wearing a cybernetic arm that literally packs quite the punch and is clearly a comrade of Reaper, Widowmaker, and Sombra as a member of Talon. In the introduction video, Overwatch Director Jeff Kaplan goes through the list of everything that players can expect from Doomfist.
For the most part, the character is about as up close and personal as Overwatch heroes can get, with his fist being capable of bursts like those from a shotgun. His ability called Seismic Slam is a ground attack where he slams his gauntlets into the ground and produces a powerful blast. Then there’s his Rising Uppercut, which allows Doomfist to toss his enemies into the air and slam them into walls using his Rocket Punch attack.
In terms of his ultimate called Meteor Strike, Akande leaps high into the air and slams into the ground to deal a lot of damage, Forbes reports. Anyone who wants to test Doomfist out can do so right now as the character is available for testing on the PTR.
For the most part, the new hero is unique in that he is the only offensive melee character in the game. As such, it would be interesting to see how he contributes to the overall dynamic of the game.
