SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt., Nov. 17, 2016 -- Dynapower, the global leader in energy storage inverters, announced that it provided hybrid, solar plus storage inverters and a microgrid control system to Green Mountain Power in Vermont for the utility’s Stafford Hill 2 MW/ 3.4 MWh project in Rutland, VT. Green Mountain Power was able to save $200,000 in a single hour on August 12, 2016 during summer peak demand, which will go directly to lowering costs for customers.

Dynapower provided four (4) UL Listed, 500 kW solar plus storage inverters, which combine solar-PV and battery energy storage within a single inverter. These inverters enable Green Mountain Power to generate 2 mega-watts of solar firmed with 2 mega-watts, 3.4 mega-watt hours of battery energy storage. Green Mountain Power uses the battery to respond to peak events, and during off peak times generates additional value for customers by participating in ISO-New England’s Frequency Regulation market.
“The benefit of combining solar and storage at a single project enables Green Mountain Power to have a dispatchable generation asset in order to respond to peak events,” said Dynapower President, Adam Knudsen. “Through the integrated Dynapower Microgrid Controller, Green Mountain Power was able to respond to a regional network system peak event on a 90 degree August day, resulting in $200,000 of savings.”
“We are so pleased to partner with Dynapower, another Vermont company, and use their technology for this project that is saving money for customers through leveraging the latest in innovation,” said Josh Castonguay, GMP’s Chief Innovation Executive. “This is a game changer in terms of pairing solar with storage and is a big step forward for customers and GMP as we work together to transform the way we generate and use energy.”
