Former vice president Joe Biden is in the running to become the Democratic nominee for the upcoming elections in November. With another set of primaries coming up, an election expert predicts that Biden will win the Michigan primary.
Inquisitr reports that Biden is expected to take the lead in the next set of primaries. The presidential hopefuls narrow down to him and Senator Bernie Sanders, with Elizabeth Warren having bowed out of the race last week. According to election expert Dave Wasserman, who tweeted his projection on the Michigan primary minutes before the polls closed in the state. The raw total amounted to a 52.1 percent, while Sanders garnered 41.7 percent from the 17 percent of precincts that turned in their results.
The state of Michigan will play a big role in determining who the big Democrat nominee would be by July as the state has 125 delegates. Despite Sanders coming up short in votes, he is keen to take his share of delegations, with his vote percentage being over 15 percent. So far, Biden has 45 delegates from his presumed victory in Michigan, bringing his delegate total to 715 while Sanders garnered 10 for a total of 584 delegates. In order to win the Democratic nomination, the candidate must have 1,991 delegates.
The former vice president also took the win from the states of Missouri and Mississippi, largely in part of the support he gained from the African-American community but he generally did well with other demographics, winning 86 percent of African-American voters in Mississippi alone.
Biden gained a surprise lead as the campaigns progressed, and he has recently gained another endorser in the form of former presidential hopeful Andrew Yang. Newsweek reports that at an appearance at CNN, Yang voiced his support for Biden. “The math says Joe is our prohibitive nominee, we need to bring the party together,” said the former presidential candidate.
Yang’s former traveling press secretary Erick Sanchez revealed that Yang’s decision to endorse Biden came after he pledged to support whichever Democratic nominee that would be able to defeat President Donald Trump. “After decisive victories in tonight’s primaries, it’s clear that Vice President Biden is our prohibitive nominee. Andrew will certainly keep his promise and fight with the Vice President in every capacity possible to take back the White House in November,” said Sanchez.
